In line with its mission to promote health and well-being through international cooperation, the ROC Foundation recently collaborated on a health campaign in Honduras. During this medical mission, Dr. Vital Hevia , a urologist specializing in kidney surgery, traveled to the Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula , Honduras, to provide specialized surgical care, specifically oncological surgeries and kidney reconstruction , to patients with serious urological conditions. This initiative, developed in partnership with the Trinitario Casanova Foundation , has improved the quality of life for several patients in a region where access to highly complex treatments is extremely limited.
The high prevalence of serious urological pathologies in Honduras, such as locally advanced renal tumors and infectious and lithiasic kidney pathologies, coupled with the great difficulties in accessing specialized surgical treatments, makes this type of initiative a fundamental tool to offer quality medical care to the most vulnerable patients and tangibly improve their quality of life.
During this health cooperation, Dr. Vital Hevia carried out several highly complex interventions: surgical treatment of locally advanced renal tumors with vascular or lymph node invasion, reconstructions of the urinary tract of pelvic kidneys, and pelvic oncological surgery for benign pathology in collaboration with the pediatric surgery and nephrectomy team.
This action is part of the joint commitment of the ROC Clinic Foundation and the Trinitario Casanova Foundation to bring specialized healthcare to areas with limited resources and, at the same time, generate lasting collaborative ties with local medical staff.
