Symptoms of painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis

Painful bladder syndrome or interstitial cystitis can manifest itself in different ways, among the most common are:

  • Pain, pressure, or discomfort in the bladder or lower abdomen.
  • Worsening of pain with bladder filling and partial relief after urination.
  • Burning or pain when urinating.
  • Increased frequency of urination.
  • Disruption of rest, social life, and work activity.

The causes are not always clearly identifiable, but they are associated with chronic inflammation, alterations in the urothelium (protective layer of the bladder), and dysfunction of the bladder's protective mechanisms.
