Urinary incontinence chair

The ACTIVE HIFEM chair is an innovative technology used to treat stress urinary incontinence in women and men.

This device uses high intensity electromagnetic fields to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles, strengthening and improving their functionality without the need for invasive procedures.

What is the urinary incontinence chair?

The ACTIVE HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) chair achieves thousands of contractions of the pelvic floor muscles, improving their tone and restoring neuromuscular control of the area while the patient remains comfortably seated.

How does the urinary incontinence chair work?

The chair generates electromagnetic fields that penetrate deep into the pelvic floor muscle tissue while the patient remains seated and fully clothed. This causes intense and repetitive muscle contractions, similar to those experienced during Kegel exercises, but much more intense and effective.

It is a minimally invasive and painless treatment, you should feel the contractions of your pelvic floor. This will serve to improve your awareness of your pelvic muscles and help you perform Kegel exercises more effectively at home. These serve as an adjunct to the incontinence treatment you are undergoing.

How long does the session last and how many sessions are needed?

Each session lasts 28 minutes. The complete initial treatment consists of 6 sessions, divided into two weekly sessions. Subsequent to completion, your physician will re-evaluate you to assess the need for additional sessions, add other complementary treatments or terminate pelvic floor treatment. Some patients may need follow-up or maintenance sessions to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the treatment.

How should I prepare for the sessions?

No prior preparation is necessary before the sessions. We do recommend that you wear comfortable clothing. This treatment requires no recovery time and you can return to your daily activities immediately after the procedure.

Considerations

It is important that a healthcare professional evaluate the patient to determine if the ACTIVE HIFEM chair is an appropriate treatment for their specific case. Although this is a minimally invasive treatment, there are some contraindications to the treatment of urinary incontinence with the chair:

    • Pregnancy, even in the first weeks of gestation.
    • Pacemaker, implanted defibrillator or neurostimulator.
    • Electronic implants.
    • Pulmonary insufficiency, respiratory distress and severe chronic asthma.
    • Metallic implants of any kind in the pelvic, femoral or sacral area.
    • At the vascular level, aortic stents and other devices of metallic origin.
    • Hemorrhagic pathologies and anticoagulant therapies as a precaution.
    • Active malignant tumor in the pelvic area.
    • Fever or genital infections.
    • Copper IUD.
